The Finns are a proud people, and the book is from the Finnish view so I would not call it % objective. Plus the book downplayed the Finnish alliance with the Germans, but I gained respect for the tough fortitute of the Finnish winter fighter.

Until a comprehesive military history of the war is written this book is the best avaiable/5(23). The Winter War is a fantastic window into the little-known war-within-a-war between Finland and the Soviet Union in Told from the perspective of Marko, the fourteen-year-old polio survivor, the story captures the heroic defense of Finland from the Soviet aggressor.

Small yet defiant Finland held out against overwhelming odds long enough /5(14). This book is very, very readable and generously illustrated both with photographs as well as detailed maps.

Sidebar histories of key commanders flesh out the story. I own many books on the Winter War and this is the most complete view of the war by including material and photographs from the former Soviet Union that are now available/5(45).
